Personal Dreams
The first three types of dreaming are personal in nature. They give the dreamer specific information about her waking reality and how her life process is unfolding.

Mundane Dreaming
Mundane dreaming involves reworking things that didn’t get done before you went to bed. Mundane dreams finish tasks, redo conversations that were unsatisfactory, rearrange the elements and energies of the day or of the immediate past.

When a dreaming woman has a mundane dream, it means she is too tired. Her days are exhausting and the fatigue is preventing her from going into the more subtle dreaming realms.

Psychological Dreaming
This is the dreaming that imparts information about your personal incarnational patterns. Mythological dreams, archetypal dreams, dreams that are giving you data about what you are working on in your own evolutionary movement all fall into this category. Psychological dreams are pointing you toward your own ultimate evolutionary destiny.

We don’t often work with psychological dreams in dream circle (because the more appropriate place for that is in therapy or in a therapy group), although sometimes they come up. When they do, we use them as an opportunity to articulate information that liberates the dreamer and sends her toward her destiny. We emphasize movement. We do not point out in dream circle how the dreamer is stuck, or whether she is doing anything “wrong” — we never say “you should.” This is not the arena for that.

Lucid Dreaming
Lucid dreaming occurs when the dreamer becomes aware of the dreaming in the dream. This results in conscious choices: one can choose to affect the direction of the dream and one can choose to what degree to do that. It is very helpful in a fearful or traumatic dream to become lucid and to realize that the dreamer can shift the energy, or that she can take responsibility for the energy of that dream.

However, it’s not a goal to control the dreaming. It’s very important to learn to use lucid dreams as a way of becoming aware of the dreaming. We don’t encourage the dreamer to awaken the personal ego within the dreamtime, which is what happens when the dreamer starts making his or her own decisions within a dream. At that point, it ceases to be an activity of spiritual proportion, and begins to be an exercise in control.

In general, lucid dreaming enhances the experience of the dream and blends the waking and sleeping realities in an almost ideal way, especially when the dreamer simply allows the dream to unfold without intervening with personal will.

Collective Dreams
These are the kinds of dreams you have when your consciousness moves into the astral realm. You become something like a radio or television set and tune into vibrations that are floating around in the collective mind. You pick up on information you couldn’t possibly have known about in your waking reality.

Clairvoyant Dreaming
Clairvoyant dreaming involves learning about something that is just on the verge of manifesting, something not local to you, something not going on in your life, something that you could not possibly know. You perceive it in the dreaming and then it tumbles into manifestation within the next 24 hours.
This kind of dreaming occurs when your consciousness expands beyond its ordinary realms. You sense something that’s about to come into manifestation. It’s something that you would have no prior knowledge about on the level of ordinary consciousness, and lucidity is involved. In other words, in a clairvoyant dream you will usually come into a realization that you are dreaming.

Telepathic Dreaming
Telepathic dreaming also is non-local: you get information not available to you in your basic waking arena. This dream, however, is about something that has already occurred: it already exists in manifestation. It’s a different vibratory rate.

Telepathic dreams are very realistic. They are dreams where you are so sure that you are not dreaming that you can’t possibly get out of the dream–the opposite of lucidity. They’re realistic because you are picking up on a vibration that already exists in manifestation: it’s already in form.

Prophetic Dreaming
Prophetic dreaming is foreseeing the future. Some may call them pre-cognitive dreams. The information of the dream is not previously known: it can’t be in the known data field. Prophecy resides in the realm of possibility rather than probability. Clairvoyance has to do with probability; it is a denser vibration because it is already moving towards manifestation. Telepathy deals with what is already in form, so those dreams are quite solid in nature.

Because prophecy resides in a less dense frequency, the dreams are usually symbolic and hard to recognize. The feedback from clairvoyant or telepathic dreams is immediate — within a few days. The feedback from prophecy may come so far into the future that you’ve forgotten the dream or you never make the connection.

Prophetic dreaming is often frightening, because we feel that we should have “done” something to prevent the manifestation of a dream that we didn’t like. Becoming a prophet — a “doer” of justice — is more complex than that. In later teachings and classes we’ll discuss the action that a prophet takes in the world. However, the first steps are learning to see the prophetic messages in the dream, learning to recognize and respect them, learning to interpret them, and learning to be comfortable with your gift!

Dreaming the Greater Consciousness
Beyond the human collective consciousness, there is a greater awareness that presents itself in certain dreaming circumstances.

These dreams involve learning something or doing something in dreaming that changes ordinary reality. They are usually altruistic in nature.

They call the dreamer to assist others. They come from the Higher Self or the Soul Self, which sees the interconnectedness of all universes and dimensions.

Teaching Dreaming
In this type of dream you learn some new aspect of your Earth Walk.
The soul speaks to you about what you are here to be and what you are here to become. These dreams are different in character and texture from psychological dreams, however. They result in a change in your vibrational understanding of yourself and your powers to heal.

Creative dreams, dreams that inspire you to make a piece of art or do something artistic, belong to this category. “Medicine” dreams, dreams in which you’re learn something about your unique alignment with Great Creator, are also teaching dreams.

Teaching dreams often prove to be highly catalytic for dreamers. They contain information that does not actually originate in the dreamer’s being therefore they indicate to the dreamer that she has been on a different plane of consciousness. They literally change the vibration of the work that the dreamer does in waking reality. Fritjof Capra in his book The Web of Life tells us that many famous physicists, specifically John von Neumann and Norbert Wiener, had the habit of sleeping with pencil and paper near their beds because Teaching Dreams were common experiences for them. We might all do well to follow their example.

Healing Dreaming
These are dreams in which the dreamer helps someone else move toward wholeness. In some cases, you may actually heal the patient within a dream. In others, a healer will come to heal you. If the latter happens it’s usually because by being healed yourself, you will either learn a technique or carry a new energy that will help others. Healing dreams are always altruistic in nature.

Healing dreams, like teaching dreams, change the reality of the dreamer and the patient. If you dream that you heal someone, and that someone literally wakes up feeling better the next day, it’s very hard to doubt yourself as a powerful dreamer. Similarly, if you dream that you are “doctored” and you wake up feeling better, with an instruction about how to pass that healing on, it’s very difficult to see yourself as the same old person you were yesterday. Healing dreams change you!

However, don’t expect validation all the time. You may heal someone you don’t even know in the dreamtime — and you may never know what you’ve done. Don’t worry about it. Just do your work and let go of your need to be recognized.

Oracular Dreaming
“Oracle” is a Greek word referring to the revealing of hidden information. The oracle is a Divine Utterance. Oracular information has to do with guidance for the dreamer. It is wisdom from the divine realm being transferred directly: not through visual symbol but through the vibration of the word. The oracle often comes in riddle or ambiguous terminology. It’s a puzzle. In oracular dreams one can be given a name or a chant. It’s a time when Great Dreamer is speaking directly to you as a dreaming woman and it’s up to you and your circle to learn to understand it.

Oracular dreams come in many shapes and forms, but their outstanding hallmark is that they pass to the dreamer information that he or she would not have reached otherwise!

Dreams of Dancing the Weave
This next kind of dreaming requires moving one’s consciousness into an even more expanded arena. These dreams sometimes involve what we call “dreaming together,” when you bump into friends or dreaming partners on the weave and “dance” together. They result in waking reality change, although the change is not always as trackable as the healing, teaching or oracular dreaming.

Ceremonial Dreaming

When these dreams occur, you appear at a ceremony in the dream realms in order to work with other dreamers to pull something towards manifestation. That something may or may not be recognizable and the other dreamers may or may not be recognizable. In ceremonial dreaming you are “intending” the world. Ceremonial dreaming is a higher octave of the Teaching Dreaming. In these dreams you are using intent.

Intent, in its purest form, does not originate in the individual’s personal will. Intent is a force that exists within the Weave with which the dreamer may align.

“Intending the world,” means aligning yourself with potential, with Great Dreamer, with God, if you will.
When you align with intent for dreaming, you’re allowing energy to move through you in order to manifest itself in form. Ceremonial Dreaming involves joining with other dreamers to align with intent.

Aligning with the intent of ceremony is not something that you “do.”
It’s something that you “become.” You simply allow your doingness and your personal will to fall away, so that the ceremony is choreographing you. Pay attention to these dreams, and you’ll see what I mean.

Shamanic Dreaming
The shaman lives (literally and metaphorically) at the edge of the village — at the edge of consciousness, if you will — not quite a part of the social structure, not quite a part of the jungle. The shaman bridges between the universes living in the world but not of it. Shamanic dreaming involves journeying into the other worlds in search of information for someone else’s healing. These are the shape shifting dreams, the underworld dreams, the dreams in which the dreamer’s frame of reference changes almost entirely

In these dreams the dreamer communicates with the dead people, with the ancestors, with the fairies, with the animals, or with the angels.

They always involve direct communication with realms that are usually inaccessible. The information is for the purpose of healing the planet or the circle or the client. If the dreamer needs healing, another type of dream energy is evoked.

Shamanic dreaming is rare. It demands special circumstances, and it requires a very sophisticated sensitivity.

Phenomenal Dreaming
Phenomenal dreaming breaks the laws of the physical world in some kind of synchronistic way. Of course, we break the laws of the world all the time in dreaming, but not many of those constitute phenomenal dreaming. When there is synchronistic, serendipitous, waking reality aspect to the dream, it is phenomenal.

In phenomenal dreams, you visit parallel universes, and then something in waking reality mirrors that experience to you. The synchronistic element, the waking world feedback, is the key.

Phenomenal dreams are different from telepathic or clairvoyant dreams because the dreamer actually effects the change. They are not prophetic because they are in present time, they are synchronistic.

They are literally dreams in which the veils between waking and sleeping disappear.

Soul Dreaming
The soul dream occurs under unusual circumstances, like life
threatening illness or the death of a loved one. These dreams often have no story line but involve vivid color, sound, geometric shape, and/or intense sensation. The dreamer awakens from the sacred dream with a stronger sense of her incarnational purpose. Sometimes there is exact information sometimes it is just a knowingness. She has peeked at her soul contract!
