Setting Your Body With Natural Healing Energy

Oh! How Sad!

How far we have strayed from the force that surrounds and sustains us? Few of us grow or cook our own food anymore. We seldom work outdoors these days. We hardly exercise anymore. We drive our cars everywhere we go. We take the lift even to sometimes get to the first floor”

The fruits that you will eat today could actually ‘out of this climate’ and ‘out of this season’. Our lives are so crowded that we hardly have any time to look around us. To smell the flowers. To bask in the warm glow of the morning sun. To enjoy the glory of sunrise. To watch the birds in their majesty of flight. To enjoy the cool breeze on a moonlit night.

Think for a minute…Can you point accurately at the position the sun rose this morning? Do you know what phase the moon is today? Do you know what flowers are blossoming in your garden right now? When was the last time your bare feet touched the Earth?

A Machine

This disconnection from nature makes it difficult for us to interact with the world around and ultimately within us. Instead, we have come to treat our bodies as we would the myriad of machines that have come to make our lives easier. We make sure there is enough fuel. We wash it regularly or after periods of heavy use. We service it now and then, when we remember or when we are sometimes rudely reminded. When the body breaks down or fails to perform to our expectations, we take it to the ‘mechanic’ (amid much frustration and hoping the warranty still applies) to be fixed. Our use of the body may effective, and possibly productive but ultimately not very satisfying. Most of us get more out of our car than our own bodies!
“Dis-ease”

Part of this “dis-ease” with Nature has been meant disease in our bodies. Science and technology has made it possible for us to live longer but we are actually feeling worse. Pray

Prayer can be healing and if you have really prayed before, you will know that it can be “de-stressing”.

Meditate

Over the ages, people have practised meditation for purely spiritual reasons, but it turns out to be great for your health. In the intimate relationship between mind and body, it turns out that calming the former can often heal the latter. In her book, Minding The Body, Mending The Mind, Joan Borysenko M.D. says meditation is “the most important tool of self healing and self regulation”. Not surprisingly, tt is one practise that is common to all religions.

Laugh often

Children laugh some 200 times a day. Adults laugh just 15 times a day! Something sad happens as we grow up – we lose some 185 laughs. How sad! Laughing also stimulate your immune system as Norman Cousins showed when he healed himself of a crippling fatal disease. A good belly laugh as releases tension. Laughing is easy. Let go

Let go of all your “mental toxins”. Think of all the things that you can give up to good advantage : prejudice, anger, repression, vanity, ego, compulsions…. They bog us down. They hurt us. Here is a hint : forgive and forget. Letting go makes us light again.

Serve someone

Service benefits the giver as well as the receiver. It cleanses the soul and lifts you out of your ego and melodrama. The word sacrifice comes form sacred fire. Give to the world.

The beloved Yoga guru, Swami Satchidananda, says, “make a list of all your material attachments: and that is exactly how far you are from God.” Give and share. Research shows that it can be healing.

Protect the environment

The world is all we have got. It does not matter whether we are Malay, Chinese, Hindu, educated or poor. Mother Nature cares and sustains us all the same. We have taken her care for granted. Now, it seems that She may be in need of some caring. Care for Her. You cannot be healthy when She is sick. It is simple as that. Go natural. Recycle. Use less energy. Conserve. Work with enlightened organisations like TrEES (Treat Every Environment Special) and WWF. Remember, we did not inherit this world form our parents. We borrow it form our children.

Eat simply

What you put into your mouth is entirely up to you. You cannot eat sinfully stuffed dessert by accident! Eat you food as raw as possible. Raw food is rich in the life force (called “prana” in Ayurveda and “chi” in Chinese Traditional Medicine). It is also packed with a spectrum of enzymes that make its digestion and subsequent assimilation easier. Make sure stuff that is on your plate is not too complicated. To more complicated the meal, the more energy is need for digestion.

Eat fresh

Take your food as fresh and as wholesome as possible. Look into your refrigerator … is the fare there more from the farm or some chemical factory? Fresh food is again rich in the lifeforce. Even more than that, it is packed with the vitamins and minerals that start to detoriate as they are stored. Eating fresh also means that you are not exposing yourself to all those chemical preservatives.

Eat less

We eat too much. Human beings are the only of God’s creatures who can eat when they are not hungry! A lion that just had its meal will not even turn a look at a juicy piece of meat. Studies have shown that street dogs that are underfed are more tougher and resilient than our cuddly pets at home. Systematic under-eating may be actually good for your immune system. Skip a meal. Fast for a weekend. You will be better for it.

Eat organic

Try to get you food grown as organically as possible. It is the safest and sanest. It Nature’s way and it is time tested. Not surprisingly, it kindest to both your body and the environment.

Cut the carbohydrates

We eat too much carbohydrates – grains like rice, wheat or corn are only 10,000 year phenomenon in our million year history. Our bodies it seems seem to cope better with a diet mix of more proteins and fats. Sounds contrary to what you have been told? Look around you for all the obese, diabetic and hypertensive folks around you. Want to think about it again?

Drink Pure Water

Drink lots of water. Avoid the sugar, flavours, colours and bubbles that go with it. Drink lots of pure water – distilled or reverse osmosis. Think …. When was the last time you drank a glass of pure water?

Keep moving

One of our biggest obstacles is inertia. For good circulation, muscle tone, and heart as well as lung health, try to stretch, walk, work and play every day. Exercise also stimulates the production of endorphins – the body’s own morphine like substances. They seem to do help relieve stress, help healing, douse pain and even give you a “mental high”. Actually, it does not take much time, money or even thought! However, when it comes to exercise, the return on your investment is tremendous.

Take a break

Cut away form it all. Do not wait. You do not need an excuse. Think about it : life will go on even without you! Take time out either alone or with the family. Be close to nature – in the woods, by the beach or even in the mountains somewhere. Try it! It is extremely healing. Actually, you do not have to go very far away. Try waking in the garden barefooted after some rain. It is that easy!

Healing is a phenomenon that is natural and normal to all life – human, animal and plant. It is an ongoing ever happening activity. As long as life is lived along natural principles, the organism heals. That is the way it is meant to be.
