A Course in Crystals: Facilitating A Crystal Healing
By Joysprite – The Crystal Lady
You have gathered your favorite stones, cleansed and cleared and charged them. You have spent some time doing the same for yourself and your energy field. If you have found a willing participant you are now ready to facilitate a crystal healing session.
Something that I believe is extremely important to remember in facilitating any healing work is that the client is both at cause for and is responsible for the healing that he or she desires to take place. As facilitators we are simply channels for and witnesses to healing rather than “healers.” If you allow the success or failure of a person to heal him or herself to affect you, or if you take responsibility for being the one who does the “healing,” then you will be a much less effective facilitator. I often ask a person to state aloud that they know that they are an important part of the healing process, that they choose to have a healing, and that they request for the healing to take place. This is a good way to put them at cause and to help them focus on the desired result. Just because the resulting shifts may not be what you were expecting to see does not mean that there is not healing present and active in the client’s life. Sometimes the deepest healings are the ones that remain unseen from the outside.
Some crystal healing facilitators like to choose stones for a client and then plan the layout of stones themselves. Others may have the client both choose the stones and decide where on the body they belong. I remember an occasion when my husband, Chris, was having a great deal of pain and dysfunction in his knees, particularly the left one. When we went to see a friend for a Reiki session he was asked to choose a special stone and decide where on his body he wanted it to rest while the session was taking place. He chose turquoise and asked that it be placed on his left knee. During the session I became aware of a spinning blue pyramid floating above the turquoise on his left knee. The turquoise facilitated the process of healing, and since that session his knees have remained greatly improved.
My own approach is mixed. I like using the client’s inner knowingness of what is required for them by asking them to pick as many stones from my healing box as appeal to them. Once the stones are chosen and placed in basket and the client is in a comfortable supine position, I ask my guidance where to place the stones on the body. I have discovered that I am not always led to place stones according to chakra colors. After the stones are placed I choose small quartz pieces to augment areas that I sense require focusing or dispersal of energy. I turn the quartz points inward to focus and outward to disburse. Occasionally I use double terminated quartz crystals between stones or chakras to move energy in two directions. Sometimes I even bring out a wand or other tool to move energy and make auric repairs. Sometimes I end up with little stone grids (patterns) on a chakra or a part of the body that requires special attention. If you are new to crystal healing work, you will probably find yourself experimenting a bit and then settling into your own personal style.
Once you have chosen the stones and spoken to the client about responsibility, intent and giving permission for healing to take place, it is time to begin. As you prepare to begin a healing session, make sure your client is comfortable and warm enough. Healing energy is generally shared with clothing on, with the exception of massage, and can easily be passed through an extra blanket should your client require more warmth. Generally crystal healing is done with the client is lying down so you can lay stones on the body, though this is not always the case. In some situations the subject may sit while holding stones in the hands, placing feet on larger stones or holding larger stones against the torso. Occasionally you may have a client who is simply uncomfortable lying down or who is unable to lie on their back. It is desirable to be as understanding and accommodating as is possible when it comes to issues of comfort and feelings of safety.
Calling for assistance from guides and teachers can increase the vibrational level of the healing work to be done. So, once you have your client settled and ready call in your guides, masters and teachers, angels and others, according to your belief system. For some this may be a prayer to Jesus, Allah, God, Buddha, etc. The important thing is to bring in the universal life force energy and to feel supported in the facilitation process. Do the same thing for the person whose healing you are facilitation. Ask all to participate and facilitate in the healing, and express thanks and gratitude their assistance and for the healing that is to take place. This whole process can be done silently or aloud depending on your comfort level and the similarity of belief systems between you and the client. It is important part of the healing session because it sets the energy and intent of the session and acknowledges the manifestation of healing for the client.
The next step before continuing is to create some form of protection around yourself. When we facilitate energetic healing we are working closely and sometimes within someone’s aura. Under those circumstances it is possible to pick up energy and take it on as our own even though it has nothing to do with us. That is the inherent nature of the nurturer and healer, to take on the burdens of others. Unfortunately this is not a healthy thing for the facilitator, and it is not appropriate, as it takes the responsibility for healing away from the one that it truly belongs to, the client. In order to avoid this problem one can create an energetic protection device that allows the facilitation to take place without draining or creating any ill result for the facilitator.
Surrounding one’s self in a bubble of light is often a very effective way of creating personal protection while facilitating healing. Some people set their totem animal, face out, in a grid all around them while doing healing work. Others coat themselves in energetic Teflon or cover themselves in purple flame. Find your own favorite and use it every time you facilitate a healing session. It will help you to create the highest outcome for yourself as well as for the client.
Now it is time for the stones. As you go through the process of stone placement whether intuitive or preplanned, be open to what your intuition may tell you about the person you are facilitating. The same goes for hand placement if you are a “hands-on-healing” or Reiki practitioner. This does not necessarily mean that you would choose to comment out loud about everything you intuit. Use discretion and good judgment in reporting what you are receiving about the person’s body or condition and the reasons for it. Your intuition may tell you to start the healing session with a specific part of the body, or you may be led to work on the entire body first with focus in specific areas near the end of the session. If you feel more energy is required simply ask the Universe for higher flow. Honor what you receive about the client and follow those intuitive nudges as long as they are non-invasive and do not require the removal of clothing. During this time, if you have any odd or uncomfortable energy sensations, send them directly into the Earth for transformation. Those discordant energies aren’t yours, so why carry them around?
You may also find yourself desiring to utilize other crystal tools during the session such as crystal and feather fans, crystal filled drums, or wands. Tools such as these should also be used intuitively, whether at chakra centers or at specific areas of the body. If you have any inclination that it might not fit with the person’s belief system ask them first.
Once during a healing session I felt very guided to place my heart chakra over the heart chakra of the woman on my massage table. Recognizing that this could appear somewhat awkward, I explained about my intuitive nudge and she agreed to allow it. While I did not actually touch her body with mine, it was very close and the action could have been misconstrued had I not explained and asked if it were okay. Had she been uncomfortable with that process I would have respected her wishes and given intent to find another way to achieve the desired result. As it was, the chakra-to-chakra healing that took place relieved her of a great deal of grief surrounding the death of her mother, and I experienced an amazing feeling of unconditional universal love for her that I had not before experienced with a client. It was truly wonderful, and since then I have learned a sitting technique where such healing can be done from the backside of the chakra. It works just as well and is more comfortable for many people. When you allow yourself to experience unconditional love for the client you really do open the way for them to heal themselves and you become a true facilitator.
When the healing session is complete your client may wish to remain still for another five or ten minutes before being gently helped into a sitting position. You will know the session is over when the crystals start falling off the body or when the client becomes restless. Gently remove the stones and leave the client for a few moments of quiet time alone. After a healing session some clients may want to talk about their experiences during the session. Others may be quiet if they turn inward to integrate the information and the changes made to their body or energy field. Be aware of this and respectful of where they are at that moment. Also be aware of their energy level. Some people have moved enough energy that their blood sugar levels are low, and they may require a bit of juice or a few crackers. Sometimes healing work causes clients to lose their grounding and become scattered and a bit disoriented. It would not be a good idea to send someone in this state out to drive on the freeway. Good ways to help clients reground are to teach them to grow a root, place your hands on their feet on the floor and reground them yourself, or give them something to eat or drink. It usually doesn’t take more than fifteen minutes for a client to “come back” to the regular world and be ready to go on with their daily activities.
When you have completed a healing session it is as important to take care of yourself as it is for the client to take care of him or herself. Give your own energy centers a quick sweep. If you find any discordant energy, send it into the Earth for transformation. Blow up or disintegrate your grounding cord and plant a new one. Take a moment or two to thank yourself as well as the beings you called upon for assistance in the healing facilitation. Clear and cleanse the stones you used before putting them back into your healing box. Before you facilitate healing with another client, be sure to wash your hands and clear the room where you have been working. Sage or gem elixir sprays are often lovely ways to quickly cleanse rooms and crystals before working with another client.
