Taming Monkey Mind In Meditation
It’s been called the monkey mind – the endless chattering in your head as you jump in your mind from thought to thought while you daydream, analyze your relationships, or worry over the future. Eventually, you start to feel like your thoughts are spinning in circles and you’re left totally confused.

One way to tame this wild creature in your head is through meditation – although the paradox is that when you clear your mind for meditation you actually invite the monkey in your mind to play.

This is when you are given the opportunity to tame this mental beast by moving beyond thought – to become aware of a thought rather than thinking a thought. The difference is subtle, but significant. When you are aware of your thoughts, you can let your thoughts rise and float away without letting them pull you in different directions. Being able to concentrate is one of the tools that allows you to slow down your thought process and focus on observing your thoughts.

To develop your concentration, you may want to start by focusing on the breath while you meditate. Whenever your monkey mind starts acting up, observe your thoughts and then return your focus to your breath. Some breathing meditations call on you to focus on the rise and fall of the breath through the abdomen, while others have you concentrate on the sound of the breath. Fire can also be mesmerizing, and focusing on a candle flame is another useful tool for harnessing the mind. Keep the gaze soft and unfocused while observing the color, shape, and movement of the flame, and try not to blink. Close your eyes when you feel the need and continue watching the flame in your head.

Chanting, devotional singing, and mantras also still the mind. However you choose to tame the monkey mind, do so with firm kindness. The next time the chattering arises, notice it and then allow it to go away. With practice, your monkey mind will become quiet and so will you.

Maintaining an alkaline body allows you to more easily connect with spirit. The more alkaline our bodies are, the more calm and focused we become. Our emotions become more harmonious and we become more receptive to spiritual guidance. We literally are vibrating more in harmony with the energy of our higher self.

Alkalinizing the Body
The body uses two major groups of substances — acid and alkaline. To be healthy, it needs both. When you have these two in equal amounts, a balance is achieved. The degree of acidity of a substance is measured by its PH. Alkaline foods are more gentle substances. A 7.39 PH is where the body operates in perfection. When alkalinity is too high or when acidity is too high, imbalances are created. Due to poor dietary choices, many people these days are too acidic. You can do simple daily tests to find out where you are in terms of alkalinity. Most health food stores sell PH test strips that use either saliva or urine to indicate PH levels.

How to Become Alkaline
Too much acidity in the body robs the blood of oxygen. Without sufficient oxygen, the body suffers. To keep your body alkaline rather than acidic, eat plenty of high-quality healthful fats (omegas) and focus food choices around green vegetables. It is also important to keep your body sufficiently hydrated with charged water. There are many good brands of water ionizers on the market with new technologies being developed every day. A water ionizer provides high-PH water.

Eating a High-Alkaline Diet
Eating high alkaline foods gives the body more opportunity to be healthy, while high acidic foods do not. Choosing a balance of foods that create an alkaline body will cause a healing atmosphere in the body. Acid Foods are foods that when digested in the body form an acid substance in the system. Alkaline Foods are foods that when digested in the body neutralize acids in the system.

Stress - Mind Control

Daryl was a very angry man. He was indulging in a spot of woodwork in his workshop when he accidentally toppled a container of nails. Cussing at his lousy luck, Daryl angrily bent over to begin picking up the nails. In his haste, his elbow brushed against the work table top and upset a tub of glue which had been resting upon it.

The infuriated man started to stamp his feet and what do you know, one of the fallen nails pierced through the sole of his shoe. Daryl was left hopping mad, so to speak.

How many times have we found ourselves in a situation like Daryl’s? A minor inconvenience can spiral into something much bigger, amplified by our rage and annoyance. Accidents and inconveniences do happen. It is all part and parcel of life and not something which life dishes out to torment us.

The way we react and deal with these incidents is all that truly matters. Maintaining one’s calm and composure (I know that it’s hard but please try!) is of utmost importance. Take a deep breath to dispel the train of anger coursing through the energy system as that increases the likelihood of a second accident happening. Remember that like attracts like, and anger begets only more anger! Once we have calmed down sufficiently, proceed with cleaning up the mess or doing whatever it takes to remedy the situation.

In stressful times, it pays to remember this mantra, where we “stop, breathe and proceed”.

Stopping oneself is crucial as it firewalls the destructive train of angry thoughts and prevents the situation from spiralling out o control. We should be in control of the situation, and not let the situation control us.

Hence, that is why it is so very important that we maintain our calm and composure when it comes to our spiritual practice or energy work. We want to keep the energies pure and vibrations high, and not allow distractions or irritations to taint the integrity of our work.

When we face interruptions of any nature, we must keep at the task with focus and be extremely mindful not to let the slightest feeling of irritation cloud the responses we are receiving.

If one is unable to “stop, breathe and proceed”, then it is better perhaps to take a break from the session (if possible) and resume a few minutes later when one has regained composure and clarity.

Whatever situation we find ourselves in, a mantra can be a handy tool to keep on hand to help us deal with the curve balls life sometimes deals us.

Sometimes the simplest things can bring us the most ease and peace. Take this little meditation for example: all you need is a potato (or a good imagination) and a little time. Why do it? It will help you to unwind, slow down to the peaceful rhythms of the earth in winter, de-stress, and feel just a little more grounded amid the holiday hustle and bustle.

Simple Solution:

When you feel more rested and grounded, everything gets easier. Try this simple meditation to feel some deep earthy peace:

I love to do this meditation at dusk, by the light of one golden beeswax candle. Even when I tell myself I don’t have time to do this (too much to do! Not enough time!) I know that if I do, it will help me to get everything done with a much better grace (and much faster!) than if I didn’t. It is truly time well-spent.

1. Take a potato, if you have one, to a comfortable place where you won’t be disturbed. Before you go, preheat your oven to 425F.

2. Now take a moment to pay attention to your potato. How many of us have ever really appreciated one before? What is the texture like? Some are gritty, with little crystals of dirt clinging to it. After all, it grew underground–it still carries lots of earthy energy with it. Notice the shape: lumps, bumps, hills and crevices–potatoes can be very earth-like. What does it smell like? Notice how heavy it is in your hand, how substantial. Potatoes were the main source of nourishment for many people, once. They are a kind of symbol of the simplest, most basic and substantial food.

3. Now bring your awareness to your breathing, and gently focus on your heart center. Give a moment of thanks for having enough to eat when so many go hungry. Give a little gratitude to this humble potato for offering itself and its nourishment to you today. Know that its body will become a part of your body, in the way of all life on earth.

4. Once your oven is preheated, wash your potato, enjoying the way water brings out the smoothness of its skin, then pat it dry and put it in the oven. (You may want to prick it a few times with a fork so steam can escape.) Set a timer for 45 minutes.

5. Now you have 45 minutes to do nothing but be, rest, and become aware of your body. Any pain or tension there? Just be with any places that call for your attention, placing your hands on those places, if possible, and breathing, not trying to “fix“ it, but allowing the energy that flows through all things to flow through you. If you feel relaxed and comfortable, take time to enjoy that. Give yourself some time to feel cradled by the warmth and darkness. Nap, if you like.

6. After a little while, your potato will begin to fill the room with its fragrance. Raw potatoes are hard and pearly. Yours is baking into a mellow creamy softness. When the timer rings, put on an oven mitt and remove your potato. Cradle it in your mitted hand for awhile.

7. Notice how it steams and how it smells. When it has cooled enough, place it anywhere on your body that wanted attention. Enjoy the lovely therapeutic warmth soaking into skin and muscle. Imagine the potato’s sweet earthy energy penetrating all the way to your bones, bringing ease and nourishment.

8. When it has cooled enough, open up your potato and savor the sudden burst of steam and whiteness that emerges from the dark and earthy outside–just as the sun’s rebirth at winter solstice emerges from the time of darkest, longest night to fill the earth with the dawning of new life and hope.

9. Sprinkle your potato with sea salt and savor each mouthful, knowing that you are eating all the earthy little hills and valleys you noticed before. This potato is a gift from Mother Earth, formed in the earth, of the earth, just as our bodies are made of earth’s elements.

10. When you have finished, take a moment to thank the earth. Then return to your life with greater awareness of your deep connection with potato, body, earth, and the blessings of sun‘s return.

It makes you feel as a precondition for the arrival of the new earth: the human being to ascend, must be complete.

We feed ourselves in moderation, being careful not to ingest foods low vibration, such as meat or vegetable transgenic and exercise to help us to activate our bloodstream, as the light codes will be transported via the blood from the heart to the rest the organism.

The activation will take place throughout the day, but not completely perceive its effects until the next day, after sleeping at least six hours.

From the morning of November 12 many people feel a deep desire to make a change in their lives, others will embark on a journey with renewed strength, others feel a great inner turmoil. IN A PERPETUAL DANCE, EARTH AND SKY provide us with a beautiful life-sustaining environment.

Just when Mother Earth pulls back into her roots to replenish and revitalize, leaving her queendom brown and barren, Father Sky fills his realm with a carnival of clouds that bring moisture to a parched planet.

Working in concert, they never leave us with a time when our eyes cannot be dazzled, our hearts uplifted in awe, and our lungs filled with air. Regretfully, ignorance and greed are damaging both earth and sky as we humans act as if there is an extra earth in the attic.

One outcome of living more in harmony with the Spirit will be a natural increase in awareness about the need to care for our planet. It is the literal ground of our being, and both Mother Earth and Father Sky need us to be sensitive to what harms them. We are planetary stewards and must learn to treat our home with respect and care.

Every now and then I travel to sacred spots with a group of spiritually-minded women.

Recently we went to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah, where Mother Nature has responded to the elements of wind and water by creating breathtaking sculptures, awesome in size and beauty. One of the goals of these excursions is to consciously bless the earth and restore energy to places that may have been depleted through misuse.

On this trip, we spent two hours silently in the presence of the incredible arches. The single suggestion made by one of the leaders before we began was to hold the sentiment, “I see you from afar, and I am longing for your healing” as we experienced Mother Earth. Afterward, one woman’s comment especially struck me: “I promised that I will walk the earth with sensitive feet.”

How different our world would be if we all walked everywhere with sensitive feet! Take a moment today to consider your relationship with nature. How can you walk the earth with more sensitive feet?

I believe there is a spiritual law of employment, a law of true supply and demand, that we all can turn to, whether we’re out of work or in fear of being laid off. This divine law of employment is forever employing and holding us in our right position — that of expressing and living divine qualities no matter what we’re doing. The venue may change, but the law is constant.

Understanding this law helped me find a solution when I felt threatened by layoffs.

I had worked at a company on system engineering research for more than seven years when the layoffs began. The prospect of a pink slip, along with a growing desire to use my talents in other ways and have more contact with other people, motivated me to think about a career change.   Although I had solid work experience, all my technical expertise had been gained from on-the-job training.   My resume looked a bit questionable, beginning with a graduate degree in geology.  I began to question myself.

Did I need to take a lower-level position to get experience in a more desirable field? Would I need to take a salary cut, because I didn’t have the right degree? Should I go back to school? Did I need to take a backward step in order to move forward?  This kind of questioning got me nowhere, since the answers weren’t clear. I decided to take another approach.

I chose to seek spiritual guidance by asking God for direction. What I needed was to feel secure in my spiritual position, my relationship with God and to get a better understanding of the divine law of employment.

My prayer went something like one Oprah Winfrey shared in Oprah magazine:

“Use me, God. Show me how to take who I am, who I want to be, and what I can do, and use it for a purpose greater than myself.”

I wanted my business to be God’s business — only and exactly what the divine Employer wanted me to do.

I found encouragement in these words from Mary Baker Eddy: “The unity which exists between God and man must be wrought out in life-practice, and God’s will must be universally done.” My real job is to express God-like qualities. I prayed to be more patient, diligent, loving, kind, thoughtful, professional and gracious at work–and to do it to the hilt. That was the real career change.   I also prayed to be open and receptive to new opportunities in my life, no matter what they were.

Yes, I did send out resumes and research leads, but it wasn’t a frantic search. I had faith in the idea that since God’s law of employment was continuing to place me every day where I could do the most good, I couldn’t be pushed out of my rightful place before I was supposed to go. And, I couldn’t mistake my next new place or arrive there too late. The place that I needed, needed me, too.

The divine law of employment was governing every phase of my career move.

A few months later, I attended a conference co-sponsored by my company. The research lab at a major university hosting the conference was doing thrilling, cutting-edge work.

My mind swirled as I thought about the possibility of working there. Was I qualified? Although the job was highly attractive, I had also been yearning to incorporate a more spiritual dimension into my work. Would I be able to do so in academia? Was there even a place for me? I put these doubts aside and again turned to God.

After letting the research lab know of my interest, I was invited to interview. However, government equal-opportunity regulations required that the position remain open to give all prospects ample time to apply. And so I waited.     Months went by. I continued to job hunt, but every time I prayed, it felt right to hold on and not give up on this option.   I even turned down another job offer. Finally, five months later, the wait ended. After 200 resume submissions and interviews with scores of candidates, they hired me.

So what did I do at the lab? I learned about the lab’s research, talked about it and presented it on a daily basis to groups ranging from several people to hundreds.  I interacted with students, professors, large corporations, press and people from all over the world. All the spiritual qualities I had been honing during the months of waiting served me in good stead. They were exactly what I needed for this new position, which lasted for six years until my family relocated.

Before starting your job search, tap into the divine law of employment for a new sense of purpose. You may discover that your present job offers more than you realize. Or your next position will offer an expanded sense of purpose.
